LINKBAR EXPLAINED
Directly under the colored button bar at the top of your screen you will notice thirteen clickable menus that function like Favorites or Bookmark Files. If you prefer to navigate these menus vertically by clicking through a series of static folders, click the LINKBAR BUTTON near the upper right of your screen. This will split the screen. The clickable menu folders appear in the upper left of the screen. When you hit the page you are looking for it will be displayed in the large frame on the right.

These thirteen menus are designed to make it super-easy for you to navigate to more than 80,000 additional documents and databases beyond the libraries that are indexed in our proprietary searchable database of judicial opinions.

CASES MENU : The Cases Menu makes it easy to navigate to publicly available web based judicial and administrative opinions that reside on the servers controlled by the respective governmental instrumentality. There are several reasons that these resources are provided as a supplement to our proprietary searchable database of judicial opinions. To begin with, it's a fact that many judicial opinions appear on the public web within minutes of issuance; before they appear in any proprietary collection generated by ourselves or our competitors. Next, this menu links on a detailed basis to many jurisdictions that are not yet included in our searchable database; lower bankruptcy courts, additional Federal districts, and hundreds and hundreds of Federal and state administrative agency opinion archives which sit buried and constructively unusable on the public web. In sum, this detailed, intuitive menu is useful primarily for recency and reference.
STATUTES MENU : The Statutes Menu provides streamlined access to all Federal and state statutes with the exception, at this writing, of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. When you are using this menu, you will notice that you are frequently prompted to choose "BROWSE" or "SEARCH". These options reflect our thinking that one would "browse" to a known statute and simply click on it. In contrast, one would "search" for an unknown statute for every instance of the phrase "income tax", for example, that may appear anywhere in the entirety of the statutory text in a particular jurisdiction. In most jurisdictions you will notice that you browse the menu by title number, chapter number and/or subject matter. In most jurisdictions, statutes are not annotated. However, it is very easy using TheLaw.net to locate judicial opinions by statute.
RULES MENU : The Rules Menu provides streamlined access to Federal and state judicial rules and procedures. This menu also includes jury instruction references where we have found them available. If there is a rule you need that you are unable to find using the Rules Menu, ask TheLaw.net Virtual Assistant to find it for you.
ADMIN MENU : The Admin Menu incorporates two primary sub-directories: Decision and Regulations. The Admin Menu incorporates the same "browse or search" reasoning as the Statutes Menu. Use the Admin Menu to access the Code of Federal Regulations, the Federal Register and most state administrative codes. If you happen to be in a state that does not make an official version of their administrative code available online, TheLaw.net Virtual Assistant stands ready to support you offline. Just let us know how we can help.
FORMS MENU : The Forms Menu incorporates access to several thousand Federal and state judicial and administrative forms. Generally, you will see forms that you would expect to find at the courthouse or an executive agency. The United States Department of Agriculture alone, has 72 separate forms archives. It's a big world out there! TheLaw.net is not a great resource for locating high-end proprietary forms such as pro-forma contracts, complaints and so forth. That said, if there is a form you need that you cannot find using our system, we will try to find it for you [somewhere] for free, or otherwise recommend a resource where you may be able to find the form on a transaction basis at a nominal cost using your credit card.
COURTS MENU : The Courts Menu is intended to turn you into a virtual clerk as to thousands of judicial jurisdictions. This is where you locate local rules, contact information, directions, and other information regarding the jurisdiction where you may be a participant in litigation.
EXECUTIVE MENU : The Executive Menu maps to more than 10,000 Federal and state executive agency related resources. It's very intuitive; arranged with the Chief Executive and constitutional offices at the top, cabinet level offices next and so forth. Searchable Secretary of State databases are available in most jurisdictions as are attorney general opinions, together with hundreds of additional agency decision archives at the Federal and state level. Accessing the site of a particular agency is like going to the library and taking out a book about that agency. Subscribers to TheLaw.net find this menu incredibly useful.
LEGISLATURES MENU : The Legislatures Menu provides legislative contact information, legislative history in many jurisdictions, tools for tracking pending legislation and more. Should you need support as to legislative history that predates that which is available via the Legislatures Menu, give TheLaw.net Virtual Assistant an opportunity to find what you need.
TOPICS MENU : The Topics Menu aggregates practice-area or topic-specific resources in several dozen areas of the law. Categories of available resources include: relevant Federal or state executive agencies, local, regional and national non-profit organizations, colleges and universities that may provide subject matter expertise, historical references, world wide web information sources including references to online forums, listservs, publications, and software and services that we think you ought to be aware of even though we have no strategic relationships with them. We always have our eyes open for low-cost alternatives to the big guys!
BARS MENU : The Bars Menu is not a resource you consult when you need a stiff drink! Rather, if when you need ethical rules, opinions, or you need to collaborate based with colleagues in specific jurisdictions or practice areas, the Bars Menu will get you there. Did you know there is a "Half Norwegian on the Mother's Side Bar Association"? Click BARS | SPECIALITIES | OTHER AFFILIATIONS | A-L | Half-Norwegian.
NEWS MENU : The News Menu streamlines access to more than four thousand daily newspapers, business news, campus news, commentary from your favorites, legal news, law journals and periodicals, magazines, poll results (from ABC, CBS, Gallup, Harris, Mason-Dixon, OnPolitics, PEW, Reuters0 and the Associated Press Newswire.
REFDESK MENU : The Reference Desk Menu makes it easy to find corporate backgrounders, dictionaries, uniform laws, email lookups, people finders, public record databases and much more. Nearly 1,000 utilities are incorporated in this useful menu.
INTERNET MENU : The Internet Menu links on a detailed basis to the advanced search interfaces of the best search engines on the Internet. One of the best ways to get up-to-speed as to an area that is outside your core skillset is to use the public web. We use it all the time to competently support our subscribers from all practice areas and jurisdiction.
