BUTTONBAR EXPLAINED

TheLaw.net Software is a proprietary browser that acts as a front end to diffuse resources that are otherwise web based. If you've used Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Netscape, or AOL, or CompuServe, you've used a browser. So there may well not be much to learn here.

Look at the top of the screen and you will see a strip of buttons that begins on the right with the NEW BUTTON. We will describe each button's function below.

NEW BUTTON : Click the NEW BUTTON whenever you want to open a new window. Opening a new window makes a lot of sense if you want to, for example, run Search B without losing the results from Search A. Or perhaps you find the statute that's driving your search and you want to retain that controlling item in the first window and execute your search for opinions that have construed that item in a second window. Does that make sense? If not, give us a call or drop us an email and we can run some sample searches together.
OPEN BUTTON : This button allows you to open text documents directly from your computer so you can read them using TheLaw.net.
SAVE BUTTON : This button allows you to save any document directly to your computer. Any document that is, except judicial opinions. Judicial opinions are saved differently.
PRINT BUTTON : This button allows you to print documents directly from TheLaw.net Software. To learn how to have ultimate control over printing parts or all of documents and to learn how to print in two columns, click the graphic on the right hand side of this page captioned: CLICK HERE FOR SUPPORT SERVICES.
COPY BUTTON : Highlight any portion of the text on any page and click the COPY BUTTON. You can now paste the highlighted content into Word or WordPerfect or into an email.
FIND BUTTON : TheLaw.net's Find Function allows you to scan a displayed document for each instance of specified words/phrases. Click the FIND BUTTON, enter the term you want to jump to, click FIND NEXT and then FIND NEXT again and again until you have scanned the document and paused at each instance of the specified term..
BACK BUTTON : This button returns you to the previously viewed page. The Back Button maintains a memory of each page visited within a particular session. If you use the New Button to open a new window, the Back Button will maintain a separate memory for each open window.
RELOAD BUTTON : This button will reload the page you are viewing or attempting to view.
FORWARD BUTTON : This button forwards you to previously viewed pages. The Forward Button maintains a memory of each page visited within a particular session. If you use the New Button to open a new window, the Forward Button will maintain a separate memory for each open window.
LINKBAR BUTTON : This button splits the screen and provides for vertical navigation of TheLaw.net's LinkBar. Click it to see what we mean!
HISTORY BUTTON : Click this button and the History Bar will appear, containing links for web sites and pages visited in previous days and weeks.
VIEW BUTTON : This button cascades any open windows so that you can navigate back and forth between any open windows. You would only use the VIEW BUTTON if you have more than one window open. Alternative "views" can also be selected from the Windows Menu.
SETTINGS BUTTON : You will probably never use this button unless it is in the context of a technical support session with us.
